The Dodos - Visiter

I'll keep this short and to the point. If you enjoy the musical styling of Ohtis, The Shins, and Freelance Whales then you will like this band even more.

Hyro Da Hero - Belo Horizonte

This man is the best rapper out right now...Well, maybe not the best, but definitely my favorite. This is an earlier album of his and I'm posting this one because of the great samples he chose to use as well as his best lyrical content. These samples include Refused, Battles, and Weezer. The man has great musical taste and on top of that has a great understanding of both rock and hip hop.

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving - Deaden the Fields

A few months back a friend of mine sent me a track by this band and for some reason I never got around to listening to the whole album until recently. Its been a while since I've a heard a genuinely well crafted Instrumental/Prog Rock band and these dudes deliver. Some of the songs I found myself wondering "what the fuck is going on?" but as the songs went on, the more I realized how well crafted the songs are and how many different places they go. The songs on this album range from 4 to 17 minutes but it is well worth the journey. One of those bands where you can just get lost in thought and forgot where you're at.

NOUMENON - Party Mathematics E.P.

Noumenon is an instrumental band with a wee bit of vocals on a couple songs. I feel as though I'm hearing the band play in a garage when I listen to this album, and I say that in a complimentary way. You can download their album for free on their bandcamp. I'd write more but there are much more bands that I must post today.

IREPRESS - Samus Octology

Instrumental. But not the typical instrumental type band I usually post....I dont think, anyway.

OHTIS - If This Country Had A Heart, That's Where I Was Born

I usually dont pay to vocals when first listening to a new band but for some reason thats all I'm paying attention to while listening to this album. I'm very happy with this decision too because these are some great lyrics. Music is pretty kick ass too. Pretty sure its the first time I've heard slap bass in a folky song. Hear it for yourself.

Masske - The Earth That Breathed

This is quite an interesting album. Masske blends together genres such as hip hop, shoegaze, post rock, and ambient.

Part Rocket - In Limine / Sparks and Beams E.P.

This is quite the treat. The Sparks and Beams E.P. will be your "summer" album. In Limine is just a great record, so go ahead and download both albums.

Busdriver - Computer Cooties

It has come to my attention that I have not added any hip hop on my blog & this saddens me. So I decided to look up one of my favorite hip hop artist, Busdriver. Turns out he released this "mix tape" last year and learning this made me feel even sadder about myself.  Flying Lotus, Free the Robots & Wolf Parade are but a few of many great artists sampled in this album. Some of you may find this album annoying and "noisy" but if you're like me & have enjoyed every little thing Busdriver has done, then you shall enjoy the fuck out of this album.

Man Man - Life Fantastic

I finally listened to this album after a friend kept kept hassling me to do so. Not sure why I waited so long considering I've loved this band for quite some time. I think that by far this is their greatest piece of music. So if you weren't really a fan of Man Man before then at least give this album a listen & I'm sure you'll agree with me.

Iguanodon - Space Horror

"From the treacherous lands of ‘Dino World’ comes a monster of heroic magnitude, ruling the landscape and charming all into a psychedelic festival, Iguanodon!

When spooky aliens kidnap The Professor, Iguanodon and the monster friends must strike against the Mischief Makers and stop the tyrannical Space Horror!”

I think that cute little story is reason enough to download this album. Also the music is really good.

Joe Lally - Why Should I Get Used To It?

Dis be suhm gyoood shiyet. Joe Lallys latest album. If you like Fugazi(which you should) then you'll like this album. There's like some flute 'n shit on a song. Good use of flute.

Manacle - Quiet E.P.

Been meaning to post this e.p. for a while. Now I have....So, uh...I dunno. If you like instrumental shit then you may like this. This e.p. is anything but "quiet" *snicker* See what I did there?

Yeasayer - End Blood

Hooray! New E.P. by one of my favorite bands....Well, kinda new. These are songs that didnt make it on their last album "Odd Blood". I dont know why. Both songs are pretty big tits.

Kayo Dot - Stained Glass E.P./ Blue Lambency Downward

I'm not sure where to begin describing Kayo Dot, so I suggest you look on Wikipedia. Basically, it has one main member of Maudlin of the Well, Toby Driver, & sometimes other members of MotW. Anyway, Kayo Dot has been around for a while but I posted the 2 releases that I felt closely resembled the MotW style. Kayo Dot released an album called Coyote in 2010 but honestly....I dont know what the fuck is up with that album. Luckily, they made up for it on the Stained Glass E.P. which was released this year. Its one song & its 20 minutes long but it's the best 20 minutes of music you will experience. Blue Lambency Forward(2008) is an amazing album that has the MotW sound but with a dash of King Crimson & Mars Volta atmosphere in there.

Battles - Gloss Drop

I really shouldnt have to write a description for this album or band due to how amazing they are & the fact that everyone should know this by now.

Flee the Century - Beyond the Moonwalker

Sadly this band no longer exists. Flee the Century had a some what original sound, though I'd imagine most people easily compare them to Horse the Band. Reasonable enough, only slight differences between the two bands. For one, Flee the Century has no guitars. Two, the vocals arent as "hardcore" like that of Horse the Band. Beyond the Moonwalker was their last release way back in the year 2007 & given that time frame I'd say that they actually exceeded Horse the Band during 2007.

Cyrus Fell Down - "NS2" - Sound Off! 2009

Cyrus Fell Down - Discography

The best bass playing you will probably ever hear. The singer/guitarist left the group a while back & currently the band is recording a new e.p. with two new members. Hopefully, they dont muck it up. Enjoy these classics for now bitches.
Damn Dude, Damn

Electric Sunset - S/T

New project by Nic Zwart, former guitarist/singer of Desolation Wilderness. I just discovered this gem a couple hours ago & I'm already loving it. Every song is beautifully crafted with echoed guitar patterns, low bass that feels like its being played under water, and soft, reassuring vocals that make you feel all warm & fuzzy inside. Every song is like a warm hug. If you feel like chilling/spacing out, this album is the perfect fit.

Pegasus Dream - Painting Pantheons

Pegasus Dream is an Electronic/Psychedelic/Indie band based out of Portland, OR. Unlike most Portland bands, Pegasus Dream incorporates no folk what so ever in their music. Instead, they combine every element of my favorite bands such as Animal Collective, Ratatat, Flaming Lips, Menomena and many many more. This is an amazing album made by three amazing musicians. Keep an eye out for these guys because I think they're going to get huge within the next few years. You can download their album for free through their bandcamp website, however, I ask of you to please donate a little bit of money for the album. Trust me, its worth it.

Loss Of A Child - Carry Me Home

This is the latest album(that I know of)by Loss Of A Child and I must say that I am looking forward to their future releases which, hopefully, should be soon. Beautiful songs with odd time signature changes & often times they do this so effortlessly that you dont even realize they changed to an odd time. My favorite instrumental album thus far.

Forest Swords - Dagger Paths

Amazing album. Songs have a very eerie, yet melodic, feel to them. This is probably the last album I'd ever want to hear if I got lost in the woods on a foggy night. Otherwise, its an excellent listen.

VHS Head - Trademark Ribbons of Gold

You will either enjoy the hell out of this album or find it to be annoying. Listen to it & see where you stand.

Soft Skills - $$$

A friend of mine introduced this band to me. Their album has a dreamy-synth-mellow-pop sound to it. I'm not feeling very descriptive today so just give it a listen.

Museum - Exit Wounds/Old Fire Hands E.P.

I know not much of this Museum band except that they're from Germany & have an interesting sound to their music. I like the 2 E.P.'s they've put out & I'm sure you will too.
In case that link doesnt work try this one:

Electric Light Orchesta(E.L.O.) - Out of the Blue

If you don't know who E.L.O is then I feel bad for you, son. I'm sure you've heard "Turn To Stone" or "Mr. Blue Sky" some time in your life. If you don't like those songs then nuts to you... How can you not at least like "Mr. Blue Sky"? Its so well orchestrated & catchy. Shame on you if you don't! SHAME! You should still check this album out though because the other songs that weren't singles are really good too.

Mutyumu- ilya

Now that I have your attention, let me tell you a little bit about Mutyumu. Hailing from Japan, they're one of those rare bands that pulls off orchestra/metal really well. The music is just so incredibly epic & the female singer has the most beautiful opera sounding vocals. If you're a fan of Worlds End Girlfriend, Mouse on the Keys, or Maudlin of the Well, then you're going to love this album,

ARBUS - A Recess In The Wall E.P.

Recently my dear friends Matt & Cam went on tour in Japan with their hardcore band, American Me. Upon touring they played a show with Arbus, a hardcore band based out of Kyoto, Japan . Now mind you, I'm not really into hardcore music, so when Matt told me to check out this Japanese hardcore band I was a bit skeptical but also curious to see if Japanese hardcore is better than American. Of fucking course it is!!! The singing is in English & its pretty typical hardcore screaming but its a crispy clean scream, not that deep growling cookie monster shit. The music however is bodacious. Tough ass riffs that are complex & melodic. They've also incorporated one of the coolest breakdowns that more hardcore bands should try....Smooth Latin jazz breakdowns. I highly recommend this album even if you don't like hardcore music.

Trenchmouth - More Motion: A Collection

Trenchmouth was around from 1990-1996. I am posting this album mainly because one of my favorite comedians, Fred Armisan, played drums for this band. He didnt just "play" the drums either...He fucking tore it up on the drums, as well as the bassist & guitarist. Trenchmouth combines a lot of cool elements in their music such as punk, hardcore, latin jazz, dance, reggae & funk. The music is pretty damn intricate & energetic. The album that I have posted is mostly a collection of their songs from other albums. Enjoy!

Parlovr-S/T

This shit right hur, well, this shit will get your ass groobin. Parlovr has a "heart felt-drunken-dance-pop" sound to them. Yes, I did just make up that term. When you listen to this album perhaps you'll understand.

Dada Trash Collage - Neighbors

Not much detailed information on Dada Trash Collage but from what I've gathered it's just one guy making incredible experimental/psychedelic music. The music is filled with carefully thought out layers upon layers of effects, accompanied by melodic vocals that seam to have a certain angst to them. I find myself getting lost in the music but in the best way possible. Another "visually stimulating" artist. The album is about 45 minutes long with only 7 songs. The songs flow so well & go so many places that you wont get bored or even want to skip to the next song. Hard to pick a favorite song but "Paint on the Windows" is my personal favorite(listen close to the lyrics & you'll see why). Whole album is just fantastic. Do it. Download the album.

Netherfriends - Calling You Out E.P./Barry & Sherry

This band has become one of my all time favorite finds. Netherfriends have a feel good vibe to their albums that are a bit reminiscent of Animal Collective's "Feels" while still keeping their own unique sound. I'm having a hard time really describing Netherfriends music because, for me, their music seams more visual & imaginative. Not sure if that makes me sound like some spaced out hippie but its really the only way I can explain the music.Their 2009 E.P "Calling You Out" is more upbeat & catchy. Their latest album "Barry & Sherry" is a bit more mellow & dreamy. Both are tits.

Free Moral Agents-Control This

Incredible new album from Ikey Owens(Keyboardist of The Mars Volta) side project, Free Moral Agents.
When I had heard their first album, Everybody's Favorite Weapon, I wasn't that impressed. This album seems well more orchestrated & captivating. Each song has its own special uniqueness while still keeping this jazz-electro-jam-funk-psychedelic vibe to it. This album also includes a Sonic Youth cover & a track with hip hop artist Busdriver! Neat!

Hulk Hogan & The Wrestling Boot Band -Hulk Rules!

Holy shit.....First of all, what you're witnessing does truly exist. My friends & I found this gem in the 99 cent store about 6 years ago & played it more often than anyone ever should. Yes, it is that good/hilarious. So for nostalgic reasons, I present to you, Hulk Hogan(he also plays bass on the album by the way)

Unkie-The Price of Fame

Unkie is a 3 piece instrumental band from Japan(of course). I've only listened to 3 tracks on this album thus far and from what I can gather they're a bit more on the simplistic side as far as an instrumental band goes. Never the less, still a good uptempo listen.

Mother Mother-Eureka

New album by Mother Mother. I must say, its pretty damn catchy & much better than their previous album "O, My Heart", which wasnt a bad album per se but this album totally dominates. The album cover alone proves this. Catchy melodies & simplistic music that will stick to your brain & repeatedly play over & over.
Similar Artists: The Pixies(that's really the only comparison I can make & to be honest I think they're better than The Pixies....Thats right, I said it!)

Lis Er Stille-The Collibro

When I first listened to this album I wasnt sure what to make of it, especially since their previous album "The Construction of the Amp Train" was so damn amazing. But then I smoked some good shit & really started digging it. Then today while I was sober I listened to the whole album just to make sure I wasnt imagining the awesomeness. Turns out I wasnt! Hooray! The only thing that first turned me off from the album were the vocals but they arent even that bad; just not what I'm use to hearing. Regardless though, the music is amazing & even if the vocals bother you; they're pretty minimal & easy to ignore. Anyways, I'm rambling now. Just download this amazingly orchestrated album. You shan't regret it.

Ris Paul Ric - Purple Blaze

Remember the awesomeness of Q and not U? Well this album comes pretty damn close. Mostly because its the former singer/guitarist Christopher Paul Richards. Its a good fix for those who have been longing a new album by Q and not U.

Maudlin of the Well - Part the Second

Wikipedia: Maudlin's music, lyrics, and atmosphere dealt predominantly with the subject of astral projection. The band tried to find music rather than compose it. This was done through practicing astral projection and lucid dreams, from which the band were purportedly able to "bring back" pre-existing music from the astral plane.  After listening to this album for about a year now I truly believe this is how they got their sound. I'm not even going to list "similar atrists" for this one because I have no idea what band comes close to this sound....Maybe Lis Er Stille? I dunno, just listen to the album.

Adebisi Shank-This Is The 2nd Album Of A Band Called...

Holy Flurking Shnitz, this band is amazing! Lots of good instrumental bands have been coming out of Ireland lately & this is by far one of my favorites. Stripped down to the basics of guitar, drums,&bass. To me it feels like a more energized Mogwai mixed with A.S.I.W.Y.F.A. but with an insane bassist. You will be doing your ears a favor by listening & supporting this band.

Henrytennis-R.U.R

This is the first of many Japanese bands I will be posting because as we all know, Japanese are the best at writing progressive instrumentals. Henrytennis definitely have their own unique sound however. A bit more on the mellow side but without putting you to sleep & quite amazing at portraying beautiful scenarios. Smooth walk a long bass grooves, jazzy drum lines, dreamy guitar & other instruments such as the glockenspiel, xylophone, flutes, & synth. Definitely worth checking out.
